Phillies Injuries

The first pitch of the Phillies home opener at beautiful Citizen's Bank Park is scheduled to be thrown at 1:05 pm on Monday, April 9.  The opponent will be the Florida Marlins.  The official depth chart may show Chase Utley and Ryan Howard starting on the right side of the infield, but the tendons of the first baseman's heel and the second baseman's knee may have something to say about that.

For the Phightin’ Phils, an Achilles heel tendon tear and patellar tendinitis are serious matters.  These problems are serious for million dollar athletes who receive the best medical care in the world.  They are even more serious for the rest of us. When million dollar athletes sustain such injuries in the course and scope of their employment they seldom have to fight with their employer's workers' compensation insurance company to get the care they need.  Unfortunately, sometimes the rest of us do.  When million dollar athletes sustain such injuries they don’t have to worry about whether they're going to be able to pay their mortgage or feed their family.  Sometimes the rest of us do...
