Back to school time is a fun time. It is an exciting time. It is also an important time.
Getting the kids ready to go off to school is the perfect time to teach them about safety. Unfortunately, experience has shown us that about 400 people will die in traffic accidents over Labor Day weekend. Another 42,000 injuries will occur over that same weekend.
I recommend that my clients consult the safety guidelines and safety checklists on the website of the National Safety Council (www.nsc.org) before sending their kids off to school. The National Safety Council was founded in 1913. It is a non-profit organization chartered by Congress. It has safety tips and safety checklists for you to use in teaching your children about:
- Walking to school
- Riding the bus
- Playground safety
- Backpack injuries
- Cyberbullying
- Driver education
- Etc.
