Daylight Savings Time and Auto Accidents
Springtime! A time for blooms, buds, flowers and warm breezes! A good time to remind your family of the importance of being well rested to avoid injury while they’re having fun.
Did you know that Daylight Savings Time seems to cause accidents? Yes, unfortunately, it’s true! Studies based on statistics of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that when clocks are reset in the springtime the rate of accidents usually goes up. No exact cause has been identified but one theory is that people get less sleep after the clocks are reset – When clocks are set back in the fall, many people don’t go to sleep earlier, they just spend the extra hour socializing or watching TV!
So, do yourself a favor now that daylight savings has kicked in – get your rest. You’ll cut down on your risk of being involved in an accident and you’ll feel better too!
